May 2009 Newsletter: Pangaea ring - Mr. Hiroyuki Yoneno
This month, Mr. Yoneno is our Pangaea Ring writer. He has been coordinating
the Pangaea Project at the Tsu City Board of Education Office (Mie, Japan).
I know some other Boards of Education, but the Tsu City Board of Education
is distinctively superb, especially in terms of devotion to children and
passion for education. Surely, the Board completely changed my perception
about the Boards of Education. Our project has successfully operated in Mie
with support from the Tsu City Board of Education, Mie University, NPOs,
private corporations, and local schools. Mr. Yoneno has played a vital role
in promoting the Pangaea Project as our "representative." He hasn't
missed any single day of activity, held at Mie University, for the past two
and a half years. He has thoroughly understood our missions and project
operation by attending the Pangaea Activity. Tsu City has created a
learning-friendly environment for students. I feel children in Tsu City are
very lucky to live in such an environment and receive high quality education.

My thoughts on Pangaea Activities
Hello everyone. I'm Hiroyuki Yoneno with the administrative office for the Tsu-city Board of Education.
For the pat three years from the fiscal year 2006 to 2008, Tsu city Board of Education had been in commission for a project called "International Educational promotion plan" lead by MEXT. This project was aimed at cultivating the young generation who are self-motivated and global-minded when living in the international society. We had three major themes for this project. One was to make it a glocal approach, the second was to make an effective use IT for the project and the third was to take in international exchange activities. Tsu-city, based on these themes, had promoted international education program featuring international exchange programs, international environmental education and IT education.
Pangaea Activity is one of the main educational programs under this project. In the past three years starting in 2006, we have held as many as 22 activities at the media hall in Mie University. Thanks to assistance and cooperation given by so many supporters, I am personally very pleased that we have been able to practice numerous international exchange activities such as picton mail exchange, creation of animation, "koe-tsuna" and "color matching game" , all of which make effective use of IT.
Looking at the participating children playing and cherishing the bond with others with a big smile on their face, makes me realize that Pangaea Activities have been playing an important role in the growth of those children, especially, growing their sense of understanding and emphasizing different cultures. Also, not only the participating children but also I have been very much inspired by the cheerfulness, positive, caring and heart-warming attitude showed by all the Pangaea facilitators, so I am deeply grateful for all of them. I am also looking forward to practicing Pangaea Activities at Mie University this year.
The MEXT "International Education Promotion Plan"was completed at the end of last fiscal year, however, we have decided to continue holding Pangaea Activities as a Tsu-city Educational project for promoting global understanding starting this fiscal year. Thank you for your continuous support and cooperation.
