Q1. What do you do as technical development volunteer?
A. This is the volunteer who assists in the technical development to create a playground for children around the world. The kind of projects you will participate in include the following:
- Development of software
- Graphic design of the interface
- Preparation of the multi-language manuals to be used at the international sites
Q2. Are there any qualification requirements?
A. No. You are qualified as far as you support the purposes of our activities and our concept of peace engineering, as you will be able to work on the tasks and projects according to your skill level. You will need to have a PC, you are requested to be reachable by email (on PC, not only on mobile) and check your account at least every other day. It is preferable if your PC has a constant connection to the Internet.
Q3. What is the kind of technical expertise that you are looking for?
A. Required skills include the following. Please note that you will be able to help us regardless of your current skill level, as we will be able to discuss and agree on your project / task according to your level of expertise, whether it is basic or professional:
Programming:
Web application development (including Java, PHP, Flash Media Server and generic Web services)
Graphic Design:
Design of icons and sites, Creation of animation and 3-D modeling
Applications:
including Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash , Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Photoshop Elements and GIMP
System Design:
System modeling using UML, Database design, Ontology design
Technical Translation:
Japanese-English / German / Korean translation of the simple documents that include technical terms
Q4. How do you participate in the development?
A. It depends on the kind of the development project that you would like to work on and your availability. For example, assuming that you would like to work on the programming on weekends, we would meet at the beginning to confirm the specification, your role and the schedule, followed by you starting working at home. We would ask you to report the progress by email once every two weeks. You'd be able to contact us by email whenever you have questions during the development.
Q5. How do I apply if I want to register?
A. Please email us at to let us know that you are interested in being a technical development volunteer. In reply, we will send you the volunteer entry sheet. Once you fill it out and send it back to us, we will contact you to schedule an interview, where you will learn the outline of Pangaea and we will discuss your preferred area of development and availability. After the interview, we will get back to you with the proposal of the specific development project that we would like you to help with.
